If the girl would have kicked the ball in the air then it would definitely be falling down after covering a certain distance.
This is because of the gravitational pull or force of the gravity.
Also if she would've stricken it to wall then it would've came back to her although with a slower speed because some energy would've wasted in pushing the wall.

Maybe she kicked it upwards. It came back to her because of gravity. It is totally possible, After all direction is not mentioned in the question.
