                  Autobiography of a Local Train

I am a local train which runs for the Delhi Suburban Railway which is operated for the National Capital Region by Northern Railway. I am almost fifty years old. I work on a daily basis as I love helping people travel long distances and reach the places they want to reach on time. I have an amazing whistle which is very loud and which helps people to know that I will be moving. More people used to ride me before the metro came but now as the metro goes almost everywhere, less people use me as their travel option. They all like the modernity of the metro and consider me as dirty when they are the ones who made me dirty.

But still I work everyday for the people who still use me as I love to make things easier for them. Also I am much cheaper than the metro and most of the times I am not much crowded. I am a relief to the poor people who can’t afford the metro for their daily travel. I want to keep working like this and make people smile when they ride me but the only thing I want in return is for the people to keep me clean and in good form.

Autobiography of a Local Train

Born in the factory at Thane, I am a local train who is fifty years old. I had bright green and yellow colours on my body. There are fourteen compartments in me. Each of the compartments has beautiful and comfortable brown seats and fans are also there at the ceiling. I run on electricity and carry more than a million of passengers in me. My life is nothing but a joyride.

As I was born, I was separated from my parents. I was decorated and furnished and after three months from my birth they found me perfect for my job. So I was taken to Mumbai station where I had to run from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaja Terminus to Kalyan daily. Running over five hundred kilometres I used to enjoy the ride. Often it would hurt me as I had to carry more than my capacity. Some of the passengers used to ill treat me by littering and dirtying me.

Every day I see so many people of different types travelling on me and it gives me immense pleasure to drop them off at their destinations. I still am running steady though I have become a bit old now and my colours have faded and my seats have worn out. So I am waiting for the time when I will get my retirement and can enjoy my old age and then die a peaceful death.
