A machine can cut some piece of work in 6 minutes and a man using a hand saw could do it in 18 minutes. After 4 minutes there is a power shortage and the wood must be cut by hand saw. How many minutes must the man work to complete the task?

Machine can cut some piece of work in 6 minutes  

So in 4 minutes , machine has done 4/6 of the job i.e. 2/3 rd  

Remaining work = 1/3 rd  

Man can complete the work in 18 minutes  

So 1/3 rd of the work = 18/3 = 6 minutes ANSWER
