Answer:

The acceleration of the machine gun is 6ms⁻².

Explanation:

The momentum of the bullet is given as,

P=nmv        (1)

Where,

P=momentum of the bullet

n=number of bullets

m=mass of the bullets

v=velocity of the bullet

From the question we have,

n=10 bullets/s

m=100g=0.1 kg

v=600m/s

t=1 second

Mass of the gun(M)=100kg

By substituting the values in equation (1) we get;

P=10\times 0.1\times 600=600       (2)

Force(F) can be given as,

F=\frac{P}{t}       (3)

F=Ma    (4)

By equating equations (3) and (4) we get;

Ma=\frac{P}{t}     (5)

By putting the required values in equation (5) we get;

100\times a=600

a=\frac{600}{100}=6m s^-^2

Hence, the acceleration of the machine gun is 6ms⁻².
