A machine gun has a mass of 30kg. The machine gun fires 35g bullets at the rate of 400 bullets per minute with a speed of 400m/s. What force must be applied to the gun so that the gun is kept in position.

Force= rate of change of momentum
Momentum of one bullet=.035x400
Change in momentum per second=0.035x400x400=Force as it is rate of change of momentum
.. 5600 N force will be required to hold the machine gun in position.
