Given info : A machine overcomes a resistance of 1600 N through a distance of 0.12 m, when an effort of 400 N acts through a distance of 0.96 m.

To find : (i) velocity ratio (ii) mechanical advantage (iii) efficiency of the machine

Solution : here load = 1600 N , effort = 400N , load arm = 0.12 m and effort arm = 0.96 m

(i) velocity ratio , VR = effort arm/load arm

= 0.96m/0.12m = 8

Therefore the Velocity ratio is 8.

(ii) mechanical advantage, MA = load/effort = 1600 N/400 N = 4

therefore value of MA is 4.

(iii) efficiency of the machine = MA/VR × 100

= 4/8 × 100 = 50 %

Therefore efficiency of the machine is 50%
