A main shaft is running at 250 rpm and machine
spindle is driven directly from the main shaft to
turn at 125 rpm. If the diameter of pulley fitted on
machine spindle is 20cm what would be the
diameter of pulley fitted on the main shaft?

Here,

The angular acceleration of both the shafts will be same .

So, α₁ = α₂

⇒ ω₁ × r₁ = ω₂ × r₂

Here,

  • r₁ = radius of pulley fitted on main spindle
  • r₂ = radius of  pulley fitted on machine spindle.

⇒ 250 × (d/2) = 25 * (20/2)

⇒ d = (25×20)/250

⇒ d = 500/250

⇒ d = 2 cm

⇒ d = 20 mm

\boxed{\bold{\therefore{\:Diameter \:of \:the \:pulley \:to \:be \:fitted \:on \:main \:spindle = 20\:mm}}}
