Step-by-step explanation:

The man's present age=X

The son's present age=Y

At present, Man's age is 3 times his son's age i.e

X=3Y

10 years ago, The man's age is X-10 and son's age is Y-10 and the man was 5 times his son's age i.e X-10=5(Y-10)

Substitute X=3Y in this equation we get,

3Y-10=5Y-50

2Y=40

Y=20

Since X=3Y,

X=60.

Therefore the age of the father and son is 60 years and 20 years respectively.

Hope this helped
