let man buys x articles

first. 3 articles for 1 rs .

so price of one article = 1/3 rs

price of x articles = x/3 rs


also ,

4 articles for 2 rs

so price of one article = 2/4 = 1/2 rs

price of x articles = x/2 rs


6 articles for 3 rs

so article for one article = 3/6 = 1/2 rs

so price of 2x articles , = 2x /2 = x rs


now , cost price of 2x articles = x/3 +x/2

= 5x/6

cost price of 2x articles = 5x/12

selling price of 2x articles = x rs

selling price of 2x articles = x/2 rs


so profit = x/2 - 5x/12

= 12x - 10x/24

= 2x / 24

= x/12

now ,

cost price = 5x/12 -------- profit = x/12


cost price = 100 -------- profit = ?


5x/12 * profit = x * 100 /12

profit = 20 = 20%
