Let the distance covered on foot be 's'.

Total distance covered is 24 km.

The distance covered by bicycle is '24-s'.

Speed on foot is 4.5 km/h.

Speed on bicycle is 10 km/hr.

Total time cover by foot and bicycle = 3.5 hours.

We know, Time Distance Speed

Then,

4.5 + 24-s 10 =1 3.5

Solving the equation,

10s+4.5(24-s) 4.5x10 3.5

10s+108-4.58 45 3.5

108 + 5.5s 3.5 x 45

108 5.5s: = 157.5

5.5s 157.5 - 108

5.58 = 49.5

s= 49.5 5.5

8=9
