River man problem are sometimes known as kinematics.

Firstly we take V as the velocity of the river

let V1 be the velocity of river in still water.

and w be the width of the river.

The time is specified which is 10 min or w/v1=10

whereas the drift in this case will be

X=Vt

120=10vt

the shortest path taken when vb is along ab is

vb=root over v21-v2

12.5=W/vb

solving these three equation we get V1=20m/min, v=12 and w=200
