Step-by-step explanation:

let he has x no. of friends and each get y rupees

x*y = 100 -------1

now according to question

if there are 5 more friends then

x+5

each 0ne get 1 rs less

so

(x+5)(y-1) = 100 -----2

solving both eq..

xy = 100

(x+5)(y-1) = 100

in 2nd one

xy + 5y -x -5 = 100

xy + 5y -x = 100+5

xy + 5y -x = 105

from eq 1 xy =100

100 + 5y -x = 105

5y -x = 105-100

5y -x = 5 -----(3)

from eq ..1 ,y = 100/x

(5* 100)/x -x = 5

500/× - x = 5

500 - x^2 = 5x

x^2 +5x -500 =0

applying quadratic formula we get

x = 20 or -25 (rejected) ____4

by eq 4

y = 5

there fore required no. of friends were

20 intially ...
