Let the distance be d

speed (1) = 20 km/h

time taken = distance / speed

time taken = d / 20

speed (2) = 30 km/h

time taken = distance / speed

time taken = d / 30

average speed = total distance / total time

average speed = (d+d) / [(d/20) + (d/30)]

average speed = 2d / (d/12)

average speed = 24d / d

average speed = 24 km/h
