a man fired from a gun infront of a wall which is 150m away from him and and heard the echo after 1.5 seconds . Calculate the speed of sound in air​

Explanation:

Distance between the man and the wall, d = 150 m

To hear an echo sound has to travel twice the above distance. ie; from the man to the wall and then from the wall to the man. So total distance the sound traveled will be twice the value of d.

∴ Total distance, D = 2d

                               = 2 × 150

                           D = 300 m

The time taken to hear the echo, t = 1.5 s

Then the speed of the sound can be calculated as:

 S = 2d / t

     = (2 × 150) / 1.5

     = 300 / 1.5

∴ S = 200 m/s
