A man fires a gun towards a hill and hears it's echo after 5 second then he moves 340m towards the hill and fires his gun again this time he hears the echo after 3s calculate the speed of sound .

The sound waves will travel to hill get reflected and come back. So, the time taken will be to go to the hill and come back.

Let the velocity of sound be 'v'.

Let the distance from the man to the hill be 'x'.

Time taken by the sound waves for total travel will be = 2*x/v = 5 (Given)

    or, x = 5v/2

Now after he moves,, the distance will reduce by 340m.

Therefore , now time taken will be 2(x-340)/v = 3

  or, 2{(5v/2)-340}/v = 3

   or, v = 340 m/s
