Solution : step 1 : A man first moves 3m due east.
so, vector form of displacement, s₁ = 3i
step 2 : then he moves 6 north.
so, vector form of this displacement, s₂ = 6j
step 3 : and finally he moves 7 m due west.
so, vector form of 3rd displacement, s₃ = -7i
resultant displacement, s = s₁ + s₂ + s₃
= 3i + 6j - 7i
= 6j - 4i
= -4i + 6j
so, the magnitude of resultant displacement , |s| = √{(-4)² + (6)²} = √(16 + 36) = 2√13 m
Therefore the magnitude of the resultant displacement is 2√13 m.
