let his total savings = X
then 1/3 of X = X/3
now remaining saving = X-(X/3)
so money given to his wife = 3/4{X-(X/3)}
=3/4{(3X-X)/3}
= 3/4{2X/3}
= X/2
and remaining = 20,000
now by adding we get
X= X/3+X/2+20,000
X-X/3-X/2 = 20,000
by taking LCM of 2 &3 we get 6
so (6X-2X-3X)/6 =20,000
by solving we get X/6 = 20,000
X= 20,000x 6
X=120000
so total saving = 120000
then 1/3 of X = X/3
now remaining saving = X-(X/3)
so money given to his wife = 3/4{X-(X/3)}
=3/4{(3X-X)/3}
= 3/4{2X/3}
= X/2
and remaining = 20,000
now by adding we get
X= X/3+X/2+20,000
X-X/3-X/2 = 20,000
by taking LCM of 2 &3 we get 6
so (6X-2X-3X)/6 =20,000
by solving we get X/6 = 20,000
X= 20,000x 6
X=120000
so total saving = 120000
