Total money = 100%

share Of the Elder son = 35%

Remainder = ( 100% - 35% ) = 65 %

share of younger son = 40 % of (remainder)

= 40% of 65

= ( 40 × 65 ) / 100

= 26 %

The percentage left with the man = 100 - 35 - 26

= 100 - 61

= 39%

According to the problem given ,

39% of total amount = Rs 11700

Total amount = ( 11700) / 39%

= ( 11700 × 100 ) / 39

= Rs 30000

The man had Rs 30000.

Thanks

Answer:

Let the man have Rs.x

Money given to his elder son  0.35x

Money left 1-0.35x

Money given to younger son 0.40 × 0.65x = 0.26x

Total money left  X - 0.35x-0.26x = 0.39x
Hence 0.39x= 11700
= 30,000
