A man goes 30km due north and then 40km due east. How far away is he from his initial position

you go 30km south and then 40km east all you are doing is that you are forming a right angled triangle with sides 30 and 40 and thus by pythagoras theorem the third side is 50 km and by using trignometery, the angle made from the north direction is 180+37 degrees. So you are 50km away from the initial point making an angle of 180+37 degrees north

x² = 40² + 50²

x = √(1600 + 900)

x = √2500
