Let man starts from point A and travels in west up to 35m,consider it as point B
then he walks towars north for 12m , consider this point as C
NOW
AB=35
BC=12 and we have to find AC(the hypotenuse)
.........As a right angles triangle is formed,so py using PGT(PYTHAGORAS THEOREM),we get
Base² +height² =hypotenuse²
AB²+BC². =. AC²
35²+12² =AC²
35×35+12×12 =AC²
1225 +144. =AC²
√1369. =AC²

or. AC=37m
Hence the man is 37m away from the starting point.
