average velocity=2v'v/v'+v
where v'=40;v=5km/hr
: 2v'v/v'+v= 2×40×5/40+5 = 400/45

TaraAnand: the answer for average velocity should be 0.......

average velocity is 0 as average velocity is total displacement/time
Displacement is 0,so average velocity is 0
Average speed:
Let S be distance
Average speed=total distance traveled/total time taken
Time=distance/speed
So,
40/45km/hr
which is 0.9 km/hr appr.
I hope this helps

TaraAnand: according to the answers provided, the answer for average speed is is 8.9km/hr
