consider the hen be x and cow be y
   all the hen and cows have only one head
       then x+y=48 named as equation 1
     hen have 2 feet and the cow have 4 feet
     then 2x+4y=140 named as equation 2
     solve 1 and 2nd equation
  2nd equ as                          2x+4y=140
1st equ multiply as 2 then      2x+2y=96
   subtract 2 equ                   --------------
                                                   2y=44
                                                 y=22  (cow = 22)
                           then x+y=48
                               x+22=48
                                 then x=24 (hen = 24)

Answer:

26

Step-by-step explanation:

Shortcut :

  1. divide the number of legs or feet by 2
  2. subtract the result from number of heads
  3. you will get number of four legged animal

ex:

  • here given number of feet=140
  • 140/2=70
  • 70-48=22 (four legged animals)i.e;cows
  • 48-22=26(two legged animals)i.e; hens

Hence the number of hens=26

Hope this is helpful to you :)
