a man has to go 50m north 40m due to East and 20m due south to reach a field what is the distance he has to walk to reach the field and what is the displacement from his house to the field

The total distance is 40 +50+20


And
The diplacement
Let the distance traveled while going north be AB and going to east be BC and to south be DC

Join point D To point A and draw a perpendicular AM to Line BA joining point B
Hence. AM is 30m,DM is 40 m

We will obtain a right angled traingle
By pythagoras theoram.
AM2 +DM2 =AD2. (2 means square)
AD2 = 900+1600
AD2 = 2500
AD = 50m
