To find:

The minimum uniform speed of man so that he may catch the bus.

Solution:

Let us assume the speed of the man be v and the time takes by the man to catch the bus be t. If man catches the bus successfully, then:

Distance covered by man = 10 + distance covered by bus

t²- vt + 10 = 0

For, the above equation to have real roots:

v²- 40 ≥ 0

v≥ 2√10 m/s

Hence the minimum uniform speed of man so that he may catch the bus must be 2√10 m/s.
