Then, x = y + 24.

Twelve years ago, father was 5 times son's age.

x-12 = 5 * (y -12)

Substituting the value of x = y + 24 in the above equation, we get

y + 24 = 5y - 60

or 5y - y = 60 + 24

4y = 84

Therefore, y = 84/4 = 21.

and x = 21 + 24 = 45.

Therefore, the father's age is 45 and son's age is 21.
