A man is running uphill with a velocity ( 2i^ + 3j^) m/s w. r. t ground. He feels that the rain drops are falling vertically with velocity 4m/s. If he runs down with same speed, find velocity of rain w.r.t man.

Answer:

4i+2j.

Explanation:

We get the velocity of man with respect to the rain for the first case to be as Vrm=Vr-Vm or we know the value of Vrm as 4(-j) and the Vm as 2i+3j. So, the value of velocity of rain will be -4 +2i +3j which on solving we will get 2i-j.

Now, when he is running down with the same speed then the velocity of the rain with respect to the man will be given by Vrm=Vr-Vm which will be 2i-j -[-(2i+3j)] which on solving we will get the Vrm as 4i+2j.
