Let, age of son=X

So, Age of Man=3X

Before three years,

4(X-3)=(3X-3)

4X-12=3X-3

X=9, Which is the present age of son and

3X=3(9)=27, Which is the present age of Man.

let the age of man be y and his son be x.
then, y=3x
y-3x=0                                .........................(i)
3 years old their ages were:
y-3=4(x-3)
y-3=4x-12
y-4x=-9                              ........................(ii)
solving (i) and (ii),
x=9
y=27
hence present ages of man and son are 27 and 9 respectively.
