a man is twice as old as his son. After 10 years, he will be thrice as old as his son. Find their present ages.

age of son=X
age of father=2x

after 10 yrs,
son's age = X+10
father's age =2x+10
=3(X+10) [as given in qn.]
=>2x+10 = 3( X+10 )
2x+10 = 3x+30
3x-2x = 30-10
X = 20

hence,
age of son= 20 years
age of father= 40 years
