Let the son's age be x years

and man's age =2x years

12 years ago

Son's age = (x - 12) years

Man's age = (2x - 12) years

ATQ ;

3(x - 12) = (2x- 12)

3x - 36 = 3x - 12

3x - 2x = -12 + 36

x = 24 years

Therefore,

Son's age  = 24 years

and Man's age = 2 * 24 = 48 years
