Time taken in covering 5 km
= 5/10= 1/2 hour = 30 minutes
That person will take rest for four times.
∴ Required time = (30 + 4 × 5) minutes = 50 minutes.

He will take 50 minutes to cover a distance of 5 kilometre

Speed of the man (S) = 10 km/hr

Total distance (D) to cover = 5 km

If he doesnt stop in his entire journey, then he would have covered the distance in : S/D hours = (5/10) = 0.5 hours = (0.5 × 60) minutes = 30 minutes. [As 1 hour = 60 minutes]

But in the question it is told that he stops (rests) his journey after every 1 km of travel and stops for 5 minutes.

So, no. of stops in his journey = (Total distance of his journey)/(Distance he travels before 1 stop) - 1          [As he reaches his destination on the final stop, so it is not counted.]

= (5km/1km) - 1 = 5 - 1 = 4

Also, he delays by 5 minutes for in stop.

Total delay in 4 stops = (4 × 5) minutes = 20 minutes delay.

So, total time reqd. = Time taken if he hadn't stopped + Time delayed in stopping = (30 + 20) minutes = 50 minutes.

So, he reaches his destination in 50 minutes.
