Concept:

Distance is the total length of the journey between any two places, whereas displacement is the direct length between any two points measured via the shortest path between them.

Given:

Radius of circular track = 100 m

Find:

Distance in half round

Distance in full round

Displacement in half round

Displacement in full round

Solution:

Distance = Total distance travelled

In full round man will travel across the full perimeter

Distance in full round = Perimeter of circular track

Distance in full round = 2 π r ( where r is the radius )

we have give radius of circular track as 100 m

Distance in full round = 2 π 100 metres

Distance in full round = 628 metres

So the distance travelled in half round will be the half of the distance travelled in full round.

Distance in half round = Distance travelled in full round / 2

Distance in half round = 628 / 2 metres

Distance in half round = 314 metres

Displacement defined as the minimum distance travelled by the object between the final and initial position.

In half round the shortest distance covered by man  = 2 × r  ( where r is the radius )

Displacement in half round = 2 × r

we have give radius of circular track as 100 m

Displacement in half round = 2 × 100 metres

Displacement in half round= 200 metres

But in full round initial  and the final position are same hence the shortest distance between them will be 0.

Displacement in full round= 0 metres

Hence, the distance covered by the man in half round and in full round is 628 metres and 314 metres respectively, and the displacement covered by the man in half round and in full round is 200 metres and 0 metres respectively.
