Let, no. of apples = m and no. of oranges = n

And let cost of an apple =Rs a and cost of an orange =Rs o

Now m+n= 40 ---- (I)

Also (a×m) + (o×n) = 17 ----- (ii)

And (a×n) + (o×m) = 15 ---. (iii)

Adding (ii) and (iii) we get,

a(m+n) + o (m+n)= 32
=>(a+o) × (m+n)= 32.....(IV)

now putting the value of (m+n) in equation (iv) from equation (I) we get,
a+o = (32/40)=Rs 0.8=80 paise
