Let Total number of Eggs be x

Here CP of 3 Eggs = Rs. 5

CP of one Egg = Rs. 5/3

CP of x eggs = (5/3)x -----( i )

Now, SP of 5 Eggs = Rs. 10

SP of 1 Egg = 10/5 = Rs.2

SP of x Eggs = 2x -----( ii )

Profit Given on whole transaction = Rs. 145

But Profit = SP - CP

∴ SP of x Eggs - CP of x Eggs = 145

2x - (5/3)x = 145    [from eq ( i ) and ( ii ) ]

(1/3)x = 145

x = 435

∴ 435 eggs were purchased.
