let the son's age be : n years

then father's age : 3n years

(10 years ago) :

son's age : (n - 10 )yrs

father's age : ( 3n-10) yrs

A/Q : 3n - 10 = 5(n-10)

3n -5n = -50+10

-n = -40 / 2 = 20

Hence, son's present age : 20years

and father's present age : (3x20)= 60yrs.
