Let the present age of son be x years ,

Then, the present age of father = 3 times his son's age = 3x years

After, 12 years the age of son = (x + 12)years

And,age of father = (3x + 12) years

According to question,

3x + 12 = 2(x + 12)
3x + 12 = 2x + 24
3x - 2x = 24-12
x = 12

Therefore, present age of son = x = 12 years

And, present age of father = 3x = 36years

Hope it helps.
