Question:

a man sells an article at a profit of 20% if he had bought it at 20% less and sold it for rupees 36. 75 less he would have gained 30% find the cost price of article.

Solution:

Let C.P = 100

Gain = 20%

S.P = 100 + 20% of 100 = 120

Supposed C.P = 80

Gain = 30%

S.P = (130 × 80)/100 = 104

Difference = (120-104) = 16

Now comparing difference

16 on 100

1 on 100/16

So, 10.50 on = (10.50 × 100)/16 = 65.625

So, required CP = Rs. 65.625
