Question

  1. A man spends 65% of his salary and saves Rs.525 per month. Find his monthly salary.

Required answer

  • Man's monthly salary = Rs.1,500

To find,

  • The man's monthly salary

Solution

\sf{Since \: the \: man \: spends \: 65 \% \: of \: his \: salary}

⁂     He saves (100 - 65)% = 35% of his salary

  Given : 35% of his monthly salary = Rs.525

\sf{=> \: \dfrac{35}{100} \times his \: monthly \: salary = Rs.525}

Alternative method

Let the man's monthly salary be Rs.100

           \sf{=> \: He \: spends=65 \% \: of \: Rs.100=\dfrac{65}{100} \times Rs.100=Rs.65}

and,             saves = Rs.100 - Rs.65 = Rs.35

Applying unitary method

       When the man saves = Rs.35, his monthly salary = Rs.100

\sf{=> When \: the \: man \: saves \: =Rs1, \: his \: monthly \: salary = Rs \dfrac{100}{35}

\sf{And, \: \: when \: the \: man \: saves = Rs.525 \: his \: monthly \: salary=Rs \dfrac{100}35} \times 525

                                                                                   = Rs 1,500

Algebraic method

 Let the man's monthly salary = Rs.x

\sf{=> \: He \: spends \: =65 \% \: of \: Rs x=Rs \dfrac{65x}{100}

\sf{He \: saves \: = Rs \: x-Rs \dfrac{65x}{100}=Rs(x- \dfrac{65x}{100}

  Given :

\sf{x- \dfrac{65x}{100}=525 => \dfrac{100x-65x}{100}=525

\sf{=> x= 525 \times \dfrac{100}{35}=1500

    Man's month salary = Rs 1,500
