Given: Total income of the man = Rs. 34,400

Income spent on food = 40%

Income spent on clothes = 15%

Income spent on house rent = 20%

To find: The percentage and amount of his savings

Solution: According to the given question,

(Total income is 100%)

Percentage of Income saved = 100% - (40% + 15% + 20%)

                                                = 100% - 75%

                                                 = 25%

So, 25% of the income is saved.

Now, 25% of 34,400 is:

\frac{25}{100} * 34,400 = 8,600

Hence, savings are 25% of total income which amounts to Rs. 8,600.
