A man stands in a lift going downward with uniform velocity. He experiences a loss of weight at the start but not when lift is in uniform motion. Why?

initially there is an acceleration downwards which reduces relative weight of man...when in uniform motion he is in equilibrium that's total of all forces acting on him is 0..as standing a ground
