5 miles by taking right angle triangle

side A -8-4=4

This will be ur diagram.

Let,

The distance from the temple to the east 8 miles be AB.

The distance left from AB i.e.

to north 4 miles be BC

AB is perpendicular to BC

Thus,

Triangle ABC is a right angled triangle with angle ABC = 90

Distance between temple and the persons present position will be AC

AC is the hypotenuse of triangle ABC

By Pythagoras Theorem,

AC2 = AB2 + BC2

AC2 = (8*8) + (4*4)

AC2 = 64 + 16

AC2 = 80

AC =

 \sqrt{16 \times 5 } = 4 \sqrt{5}

Answer :

The distance between temple and actual or present position of the person will be 4(underroot)5

Hope it helps you out
