A man starts travelling 5 m towards east turns towards south and walks 4 m.

Let A and B is the initial and final position.

Therefore, The displacement between A and B

Using Pythagoras theorem

AC = \sqrt{(AB)^{2}+(BC)^2}

AC = \sqrt{(5)^{2}+(4)^2}

AC = \sqrt{25+16}

AC = 6.4\ m

The distance is

d = AB+BC

d = 5\ m+4\ m

d = 9\ m

Hence, The distance is 9 m and displacement is 6.4 m.
