Question :

A man throw a mass of 2kg vertically upwards with velocity of 20ms-¹ . what is the potential energy of the mass after 1s ?

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀(take g=10s-²)

Given :

Mass = 2kg

Velocity = 20 m/s

time = 1 s

g = 10

To find :

Potential energy of mass = ?

Formula :

Potential energy = mgh

where,

m : mass of body

g : acceleration due to gravity

h : height of object

s = ut + \tt \frac{1}{2}a{t}^{2}

where,

u : initial velocity

a : acceleration

t : time

Solution :

h = ut +  \tt \frac{1}{2}g{t}^{2}

 \tt \implies h = (20)(1) +  \tt \frac{1}{2}(10)({1}^{2})

 \tt \implies h = 20 + 5

 \tt \implies h = 25 m

Potential energy = mgh

 \tt \implies Potential energy = 2 × 10 × 25

 \tt \implies Potential energy = 500 J

 \tt \therefore Potential Energy = 500 J

Some other kinametical equations :

●v = u + at

 \tt {v}^{2} = {u}^{2} - 2as

● Kinetic energy =  \tt \frac{1}{2}m{v}^{2}
