Let the length of total journey be x km

According to question,

3/5x + 1/4x + 1/8x + 2 = x

39/40x + 2 = x

x/40 = 2

x = 80

Therefore, length of total journey is 80 km

Given: Journey travelled by rail = \frac{3}{5} of total journey

           Journey covered by taxi = \frac{1}{4} of total journey

           Journey covered by bus = \frac{1}{8} of total journey

            Journey covered on foot(by walking) = 2 km

To find: Length of total journey

Let: Total journey be x km

Solution:

∵ Total journey = Journey travelled by rail + journey travelled by taxi + journey travelled by bus + journey travelled on foot

Now, according to the given question and assumption made,

Total journey (x)  = \frac{3}{5}x + \frac{1}{4}x + \frac{1}{8}x + 2

⇒  x = \frac{24x \ + \ 10x \ + \ 5x \ + \ 80}{40}

40x = 39x + 80

40x - 39x = 80

x = 80km

Hence, the length of total journey is 80km.
