Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Given a man travels 600 km partly by train and partly by car.it takes 8 hours and 40 min if he travels 320 km by train and the rest by car.it would take 30 min more if he travels 200 km by train and the rest of car find the speed of train and the car separately

Let x be the speed of the train and y be the speed of the car. So total distance travelled will be 600 km

So time taken to travel 320 km by train will be 320/x

Time taken to travel 280 km by car will be 280/y

So total time taken to travel 600 km will be 320 / x + 280 / y

Now total time is 8 hrs 40 min = 8 2/3 = 26/3 hours.

So we get 320/x + 280/y = 26/3 ---------(1)

Now time taken to travel 200 km by train will be 200/x

Time taken to travel 400 km by car will be 400/y

Hence total time taken to travel 600 km will be 200/x + 400/y

According to question

Total time will be 30 min more than 8 hours 40 min

= 8 2/3

= 26/3 + 30 / 60

= 26/3 + ½

= 55/6

So 200/x + 400/y = 55/6----------------(2)

From equation 1 and 2 ,, let a = 1/x and b = 1/y

So 320 a + 280 b = 26/3

    200 a + 400 b = 55/6

Solving the equation we get a = 1/80 and b =1/60

Therefore speed of the train is 80 km/hr and speed of car is 60 km/hr
