hi friend!
Let a man walks 4kms in North from 'A' to 'B'
and 3kms in East from 'B' to 'C'
Then the shortest distance will be AC
since, ABC is a right angled triangle,
By Pythagoras theorem AB²+BC²=AC²
=3²+4²=AC²
25=AC²
AC=5kms
I hope this will help you ;)
