A man walks down the road for half an hour at an average speed of 3 miles per hour. He waits 10 minutes for a bus, which brings him back to his starting point at 3:15. If the man began his walk at 2:25 the same afternoon, what was the average speed of the bus ?

He began at 2:25 ...  and walked half an hour... then he reached the bus stop at 2:25 + 0.30  

=  2:35  ... as he waited 20 minutes for a bus, the bus began at 2:35 + 0.10  = 2:45  

As the bus reached at the starting point  at 3:15, then it spent  3:15 - 2:45  = 30 minutes ...  the same tame as the man spent..   the average speed of the bus is the same: 3 miles per hour.  OK!

Note... the answer is 3 miles per hour if the way of the bus has the same distance of the way used by the man... this was not explained in the question.     OK!
