A man wants to cut three pieces from a single piece of board of length 47m. The second piece is to be 3m longer than the shortest one and the third piece is to be twice as long as the shortest piece. What are the possible lenghts of the shortest board if the third piece is to be at least 5m longer than the second

Let the shortest part is x
Then,
Second is x+3
Third is twice so 2x
At least Third is 5m longer than the Second
So, x+3+5
Here is the actual length of board is 47m
Then,
x+x+3+2x+x+3+5=47
5x+11=47
5x=47-11
5x=36
x=7.2m
Now put the value of x
Shortest part is 7.2m
Second is 10.2m
Third is 29.6m

total length=47 m
let ,shortest piece be x m
second piece=x+3 m
third piece=2x m
total length=47 m
⇒x+x+3+2x=47
⇒4x=47-3
⇒x=44/4
⇒x=11 m

∴possible lengths of 3 pieces are 11 m, 14 m & 22 m

Hope it helps u :-)
