water is compound of hydrogen and oxygen. water basically cools the comustible material so that its temperatur omes down below its ignition temp. this prevents the fire from spreading. water vapours sorround the combustible material helping in cutting off the supply of air. so fire is extingushed

Hello yaar,

Well, hydrogen is a highly flammable gas and supports combustion. Also, oxygen is essential for burning. Without oxygen burning does not talk place. But water is a group of molecules which are formed due to combination of hydrogen and often and it is used to extinguish fire. This is because a chemical reaction has taken place between hydrogen and oxygen which resulted in the formation of water. Water is a completely new substance as it is a chemical change in which the new substance has completely different properties irrespective of the substances combined to form the new substance.
