A man weighing 48 kg carries a bag of 2kg.He climbs to the top of a building 100m in 5minutes.Calulate the workdone and power.

Height of the building, h = 100 m

Time taken, t = 5 min = 300 s

When an object climbs to a certain height, the work done him is given by :

W=mghW=mgh

W=(48+2)\times 9.8\times 100W=(48+2)×9.8×100

W = 49000 Joules

or

W = 49 kJ

The work done divided by time is called its power. It is given by :

P=\dfrac{49000}{300}P=30049000

P = 163.354 watts

So, the work done by the man and his power is 49 kJ and 163.354 watts respectively.
