Let the age of son be a
Father's age = 3a
After 12 years,
Son's age = a+12
Father's age = 3a +12
=> 2( a+12) = 3a +12
=> 2a + 24 = 3a +12
=> 3a - 2a = 24-12
=> a = 12
Son's age = 12 years
Father's age = 36 years
Father's age = 3a
After 12 years,
Son's age = a+12
Father's age = 3a +12
=> 2( a+12) = 3a +12
=> 2a + 24 = 3a +12
=> 3a - 2a = 24-12
=> a = 12

Let the man's age be x
and the son's be y
x = 3y .....( i )
After 12 years
Man's age :- x + 12
Son's age :- y + 12
x + 12 = 2 ( y + 12 )
x + 12 = 2y + 24
x - 2y = 24 - 12
x - 2y = 12 ..... ( ii )
Putting the value of x from i in ii
x - 2y = 12
3y - 2y = 12
y = 12
Putting in ( i )
x = 3y
x = 3 × 12
x = 36
Man's age is 36years
Son's age is 12 years
and the son's be y
